Charles Ng

President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) , Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Professor Ng was elected an Overseas Fellow from Churchill College, Cambridge University  and Changjiang Scholar (Chair Professor in Geotechnical Engineering). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE), the American Society of Civil Engineers (FASCE), the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (FHKIE) and the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (FHKEng).

He has published some 280 journal articles mainly in the top international reputable journals and some 220 conference papers. Professor Ng also owns some 12 US and Chinese invention patents. He has delivered more than 50 keynotes, state-of-the-art reports etc. in five continents. He is the main author of two reference books and has also edited three international conference proceedings.

He has also served on many editorial boards for various reputable international journals.

Eun Chul Shin

Vice President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) for Asia, Professor in Incheon National University, Korea.

In the past 20 years, he has been a devoted member of the geotechnical activities in Korean Geotechnical Society, and also contributed to the success of many activities took place under the umbrella of ISSMGE, most notably in the technical committees of mega projects, soil reinforcement, historical monument, and environmental geotechnics.

He also participated in several geotechnical and geosynthetics touring lectures organized by the ISSMGE and the International Geosynthetic Society in many countries as an invited speaker. He has published 5 books on the geotechnical, geo-environmental and civil engineering related subjects as well as more than 100 journal papers and 150 conference papers.

Norikazu Shimizu

Vice President of the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM), Professor in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Yamaguchi University, Japan

Professor Shimizu is a past president of Japan Society for Rock Mechanics. His main research topics are “Development and practical application of displacement monitoring systems using satellite and modern technologies”, “Field measurements and back analysis for assessing the stability of underground caverns, tunnels, slopes and dams”, “Underground space design”, etc. He established the ISRM Suggested Method for monitoring rock displacements using GPS.

Professor Shimizu received the Japan Prime Minister’s Prize for Distinguished Contributor to Disaster Prevention in 2017, the Space Development and Utilization Grand Prize by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2016, and other awards from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, academic societies and professional associations. More than 300 of his scientific and technical papers have been published in journals and conference proceedings.
