Institute of Foundation & Underground Engineering is the first national research institute under the control of Vietnamese Construction Enterprise, and officially established in 19th January 2010 with registration number 262/ĐK-KH&CN by Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Institute is set up for maintaining and developing activities of Surveying, Testing, Foundation Design and for acceleration of research, development and application of technology into the field of foundation works and underground construction. All of technical scientific activities are guided by Science Council of the Institute including 18 members such as Professors, Vice Professors, Doctors, Masters who have much experience in geotechnical and foundation engineering.
